Who: Ages 6-18.
This camp is open to anyone who enjoys music! Absolutely no experience necessary, and no audition required- you don’t have to be a “good singer” to enjoy music and singing.
What:
Join students of all ages in our rich and engaging choir camp.
– Basic music literacy with an introduction to notes, tempo, rhythm and more.
– Choral and vocal technique, fun warm ups, vocal games, etc.
– Music as connection, community and teamwork.
This choir camp gives students the chance to experience music in community, where singing together teaches them to listen closely, collaborate, and build harmony with others. At its heart, music is about connection – it links us to history, culture, and one another – while also strengthening the mind and nurturing the soul. Scientific studies consistently show that learning music improves memory, focus, and emotional regulation, making it a powerful tool for growth in every area of life. Even if a student never pursues music professionally, the skills gained in choir will serve them for a lifetime, opening the door to appreciation for the arts, the joy of shared expression, and the confidence to use their voice, literally and figuratively, in whatever future they pursue!
Students should pack a sack lunch.

About the Instructor
Mary Sims
Mary Sims began singing at the age of eight with Cantores in Ecclesia, a Portland, Oregon choir specializing in sacred liturgical music. Homeschooled alongside her 5 siblings, K – 12, she was already taking piano lessons, and singing quickly became her primary passion. By age 17, she was the featured soprano soloist alongside Richard Zeller, baritone, on that choir’s album, “Fauré Requiem – Messe Basse.”
Miss Sims earned her B.A. in Music with an emphasis in Vocal Performance from Gonzaga University. She studied choral conducting with Dr. Randel Wagner while obtaining her M.A. at Eastern Washington University. There, she taught undergraduate music courses, including Class Voice, Music Appreciation, Music Theory, and History of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Mary went on to teach World Music, Pop Music, Music Fundamentals and Music Appreciation at North Idaho College, while also directing various community choirs in the eastern Washington/northern Idaho region.
For twelve years, Miss Sims has taught music and directed choirs in western Washington. She provides workshops and seminars on Gregorian chant, liturgical and early music performance practice and intensive choral workshops. She currently teaches private lessons at Snohomish County Music School, Tacoma Music Academy, and in her own practice, Studio Sims. She is a freelance soprano in a variety of choral ensembles throughout the Pacific Northwest, including her “choir of origin,” Cantores in Ecclesia. Those ties to her roots are further manifested in her drive to pass on a great love of music and the arts to other homeschooled students, in the hope of building a passionate and joyful generation to come.
Youth Choir Camp
This class can hold up to 30 students!
Choir offers more than music, it teaches teamwork by blending voices into a shared sound, builds confidence through performance, and develops discipline and resilience through practice. It also opens a window into cultural understanding by connecting students to stories and traditions across time. Even if your child never sings on a stage again, they’ll carry with them the joy of belonging, a lifelong appreciation for beauty, and the confidence to find and use their voice in any future path.
If your student enjoys music, or simply wants to learn more about it, they will enjoy this class! If your student loves singing in the shower, in the car, and when they are doing math, they will enjoy this course! If your student is shy they will STILL enjoy this course and not feel any pressure or spotlight on them. If your student is looking to build community with other homeschoolers, this is a wonderful opportunity.
Yes, provided you fill out the appropriate forms. If you’d like to stay, you are welcome to enjoy our sunroom and store, where we have free coffee and tea and comfortable places to sit or work.
We want all students to be able to learn with us. If your student needs additional support to participate in a general-ed classroom setting, please reach out to us before you register. We believe the best accommodations happen when we work as a team. It’s important for us to partner with families to understand your student’s needs and what strategies already work well at home. Together, we can explore options and make adjustments where possible to help set your student up for success. That said, accommodations depend on the time, experience, and resources we have available. While we’re committed to doing what we reasonably can, there may be situations where the level of support required is beyond what we can provide in this setting.
