The Gazetteer compares to other Notgrass' original source readers but the content is unsurprisingly more map oriented. Covering the world geographically by regions and continents and starting in the Middle East, there are regional/continental maps plus one page for each country in the world. The country pages feature full-color maps with physical features and capitals. They also include the country's flag, population, style of government, major religions, an on-site photo, and both a geography highlight and “fun fact." These map pages take up about two-thirds of the book. The remainder is original source material accompanied by historical maps, personal accounts, and excellent photos and graphics.

The Quiz and Exam Book includes a quiz for each unit and three exams (each covers five units). It is not reproducible. Answers are found in the Guide for Parents and Answer Key.

Exploring Government by Ray Notgrass is a one-semester course for high school. It provides one half-year of credit in U.S. government and an optional half-year of credit in English (literature and composition).

Students explore the government of the United States from its beginning to the present with special emphasis on the Biblical pattern for government and on the U.S. Constitution. One of the greatest strengths of this program is the interesting collection of documents found in We Hold These Truths. Included in this compilation are excerpts of "founding fathers" material – the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, the Constitution, and others from this time period…as you would expect. There are also some interesting documents highlighting the development of American governmental philosophy (i.e. Magna Carta, etc.) and some key constitutional issues (separation of church and state). It also includes a selection of documents on contemporary issues including the authorization for the use of military force against Iraq, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols grand jury indictment, public policy thoughts, morality and foreign policy, rights and responsibilities of citizens, and more.   

American Voices is a collection of speeches, poetry, and writings from original sources that are used in the course in addition to the literature selections. The literature selections (a whole book approach) have been carefully chosen. The author, Ray Notgrass, states clearly that the perspective of faith influenced the literature selections and that the goal was well-written redemptive literature. Accordingly, some typical American Lit reads are omitted.

  Unique from other 9th grade ELA courses, this one adds a focus on worldview analysis; picture, hymn, and scripture (ESV) studies; sketching assignments; and oral presentations. This provides a broader scope of communication than some programs, serving to lay a foundation upon which the rest of high school language arts will be built. This course also emphasizes interpersonal communication from a Biblical perspective: such as active listening, nonverbal skills, interviewing, and converting an essay into an oral presentation. Beautifully illustrated, the Our Great Big World Textbook was written to give homeschool families a glimpse into the magnificent world and peoples that God created. While the focus is geography, along the way students also learn history, music, art, and literature. There are 90 lessons divided into 30 units (3 lessons per unit). Each unit should take one week to complete, with each lesson taking 30-45 minutes. Alongside vibrant photographs, the text is written in a way that is understandable for elementary children. Each lesson concludes with numerous activities. Activities include finding the studied region on a globe, completing the lesson review questions, creative writing, and mapping activities, among others. While parents are encouraged to complete all the activities, this can be flexible for your family, for example, doing the lesson review or creative writing activities orally with younger children.  Every unit concludes with a family activity that will create family memories through recipes, crafts, games, or other special projects. You will need to provide miscellaneous craft and art supplies, recipe ingredients, etc. These are listed with the activity so you can easily gather them ahead of time. Full of colorful artwork and photos as well as black & white illustrations, vocabulary tidbits, maps, and biographical sketches, it is skillfully formatted into an appealing and engaging text. Each of the 28 chapters (i.e. weekly lessons) have text interspersed with Narration Breaks (place to stop and recount orally the information that has been covered) and questions: "Ready to Explore" (America's Story). Each chapter ends with a two-page photo montage (a feature I love) that pertains to the chapter's focus. For instance, there is a collection of Native American dwellings each with short informational captions in America's Story.

The Teacher Guide is a combination book. It is part teacher book, with some course instructional information, detailed daily lesson plans, an overview of the activities built into the student worksheets, teaching tips for struggling learners, supply lists, suggestions for special projects, and answers for student worksheets. Information for the teacher (about 10% of the book) includes a section on the importance of narration and words of encouragement from the publisher. The remainder of the book is student worksheets (which are reproducible for your own homeschooling family). These worksheets provide the heart of a student's journal to accompany the course. Very nicely designed and well-illustrated, there are daily front-and-back worksheets. These are similar but appropriately different for each age level between the two series. The whole TG is three-hole punched, and for the record, there are no tests in either series.

America's Story worksheets include Draw-Write pages (journaling lines, space for sketching, copywork), Mini-Project pages (cut & glue projects), Written Narration pages, Timeline pages (cards for each chapter with space for students to create their own timeline), a Special Prayer Book (a cut apart book for writing a weekly prayer for his/her country), and Artist Study (quick introduction to an artist with a variety of related art activities).
